Not so Nerd

It hasn't been too long since my last post. At least I don't think it has. I really don't know. I didn't go check, but since I'm babysitting and the children are napping(ish), I thought I would write another post.

I haven't done many nerdy/geeky things since my last post. I went and saw Star Trek Into Darkness and dressed up for it. That's really about it. : /

Star Trek was pretty good. I can honestly say though, I didn't go in expecting much. After I was let down by the last one (which was also good, but I really can't stand Spock/Uhura. It's just... no.), I went into this one expecting to see Karl Urban and Benedict Cumberbatch, which I did, so all of my expectations were fulfilled. I was pretty upset about the "Big Reveal" even though I suspected it was coming all along. I'm also a bit sad that there wasn't more Bones-Kirk-Spock dynamic. That was basically what the Original Series was about. Then again there wasn't much Scotty in there either. Bones and Scotty were basically the comedic side of the movie. That's okay because Karl can be hilarious and Simon Pegg is pretty hilarious himself. Still, there should be more Bones.
My friend and I dressed up for it. No one took a picture with us, which made me sad, but we still looked awesome so it was awesome anyway.

Is crochetting nerdy/geeky? Is crocheting spelled with one t or two? Is two t's British spelling? Who knows. I crocheted a bag for my laptop the other day because I found yarn I really liked and had no idea what to do with it once I bought it. That happened to me occasionally. You'd be surprised how many full skeins of yarn I have because I liked the colors.

I bought my mom a geeky/nerdy clock for Mother's Day. It runs on water. I got it from ThinkGeek.com. I thought it was pretty cool. No one else seemed to think it was as cool as I did though.

I've started watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys because I can. It's just as cheesy as I remember, but quite a bit more "racy". Seriously, those women have like nothing on. I didn't remember that from when I watched it when I was young. Not that we watched it much when I was young (that I remember). Star Trek, Jeopardy and, oddly, Fresh Prince of Bel Air is what I remember watching with my parents.

I think having watched Jeopardy from a very young age is where I got my random thing of picking up bits of trivia that will never ever do me any good. My brain always says Math is not important, but knowing how the Julio-Claudian emperors died is (also how they are randomly related).

Yeah it's weird.

Anyway, I think that's enough for today and my computer is dying and I don't have my charger with me. Ta ta!

Mr. Blog Post, I presume?

That title was probably funnier to me than to anyone else. I doubt anyone will get the reference, but oh well, it amused me.

Long time no see. Yeah I know it's been a very, very long time since my last post. Really I have no excuse because it's not like I've been doing anything interesting with my life. I did get another job that I really enjoy. Mostly because I get to watch tv in between calls, which on certain days can be really nice. Some days, it takes me the entire 5 hours I'm at work to watch a single 1 hour episode. Yeah...

Anyway, it's one am and I can't sleep. Well, that's not true, I probably could if I tried. I just don't feel like sleeping. I'm still playing/testing my new computer to see if I want to "change" it or not. Alright, down to the nerdy stuff.

I just got a new "laptop". It's a Chromebook, which as my dad put it "isn't a real laptop". It doesn't really have an operating system as they are generally know. If you can't do it online then you can't do it on a Chromebook. So far I like it, but it's been a bit... awkward. There are some games I can't play because it doesn't have the plug ins that I need to play them and I'm not nerdy enough to know which ones I need. I might download Ubuntu and see how that works, but I haven't really decided yet. I'm going to do more research on it and see.

I can't say I've been watching any new "nerdy" tv shows lately, just the normal ones. I have started watching Hannibal, but I can't decide if I like Mads as the titular character or not. He's just not Anthony Hopkins, who will always be the only real Hannibal. Mads was amazing as the non-speaking role in King Arthur (I absolutely loved him in that) and he wasn't bad as the bad guy in Casino Royale, but he just doesn't scream serial killer cannibal to me. Oh well...

I have gotten a lot of new video games... well a lot to me. Five. I have, however, only played two. I really enjoyed Dante's Inferno. It's not for the faint hearted. It's kind of like God of War (if you've ever played that) except that you have to fight your way to the depths of Hell to rescue your wife. Yeah, it doesn't really follow the book except for the vague circles of Hell.
I've been spending most of my time playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or just Skyrim as most people call it. It's an RPG and you can literally play it forever (or so I've been told). You have quests that you can go on or you can just wander around and steal horses if you want. Don't ever get off a stolen horse though, it will wander away and you'll have to steal it again. I'm on the fence with horses in general. Depending on which town you get them in, they will help you fight bandits or will run away. That's a con either way. I generally end up killing my horses that help fight by accidentally hitting them with my warhammer (I love my soul stealing warhammer) and if they run away I have to chase them down. Still, they do help when you're carrying too much (stolen) stuff. I currently own two houses (with the third hopefully on the way), but I haven't yet chosen a side in the civil war that's brewing. I prefer to hang out with the Thieves Guild. More gold that way.

I'm still sort of playing The Sims, but not as much since I got the Xbox, but since my friend Andrew fixed my computer up all nice, I'll probably start playing again since I do love designing houses and people. Yes, that is what I spend most of my time on.

I finished the book On Stranger Tides. It was okay. Not my favorite of his, but still good. I'm currently working my way through The Dresden Files. I just finished Book 8 and now I'm working on Book 9. I own all the books that have been published so far, I just need to read them now.

Oh, this isn't nerdy, but maybe it is nerdy, who knows? I'm going to tell you anyway.
A couple months ago, I got to cross something off my bucket list by going to see Terrence Mann sing. It was beautiful. He even sang one of my favorite songs of his and my very favorite song from Les Mis Stars. It was so amazing to hear it sung live by the guy who originated it on Broadway. IT WAS AWESOME!

I should probably sleep at some point since I have work tomorrow... today... Have a good day... night... whatever time it is for you.
