Not so Nerd

It hasn't been too long since my last post. At least I don't think it has. I really don't know. I didn't go check, but since I'm babysitting and the children are napping(ish), I thought I would write another post.

I haven't done many nerdy/geeky things since my last post. I went and saw Star Trek Into Darkness and dressed up for it. That's really about it. : /

Star Trek was pretty good. I can honestly say though, I didn't go in expecting much. After I was let down by the last one (which was also good, but I really can't stand Spock/Uhura. It's just... no.), I went into this one expecting to see Karl Urban and Benedict Cumberbatch, which I did, so all of my expectations were fulfilled. I was pretty upset about the "Big Reveal" even though I suspected it was coming all along. I'm also a bit sad that there wasn't more Bones-Kirk-Spock dynamic. That was basically what the Original Series was about. Then again there wasn't much Scotty in there either. Bones and Scotty were basically the comedic side of the movie. That's okay because Karl can be hilarious and Simon Pegg is pretty hilarious himself. Still, there should be more Bones.
My friend and I dressed up for it. No one took a picture with us, which made me sad, but we still looked awesome so it was awesome anyway.

Is crochetting nerdy/geeky? Is crocheting spelled with one t or two? Is two t's British spelling? Who knows. I crocheted a bag for my laptop the other day because I found yarn I really liked and had no idea what to do with it once I bought it. That happened to me occasionally. You'd be surprised how many full skeins of yarn I have because I liked the colors.

I bought my mom a geeky/nerdy clock for Mother's Day. It runs on water. I got it from ThinkGeek.com. I thought it was pretty cool. No one else seemed to think it was as cool as I did though.

I've started watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys because I can. It's just as cheesy as I remember, but quite a bit more "racy". Seriously, those women have like nothing on. I didn't remember that from when I watched it when I was young. Not that we watched it much when I was young (that I remember). Star Trek, Jeopardy and, oddly, Fresh Prince of Bel Air is what I remember watching with my parents.

I think having watched Jeopardy from a very young age is where I got my random thing of picking up bits of trivia that will never ever do me any good. My brain always says Math is not important, but knowing how the Julio-Claudian emperors died is (also how they are randomly related).

Yeah it's weird.

Anyway, I think that's enough for today and my computer is dying and I don't have my charger with me. Ta ta!

Mr. Blog Post, I presume?

That title was probably funnier to me than to anyone else. I doubt anyone will get the reference, but oh well, it amused me.

Long time no see. Yeah I know it's been a very, very long time since my last post. Really I have no excuse because it's not like I've been doing anything interesting with my life. I did get another job that I really enjoy. Mostly because I get to watch tv in between calls, which on certain days can be really nice. Some days, it takes me the entire 5 hours I'm at work to watch a single 1 hour episode. Yeah...

Anyway, it's one am and I can't sleep. Well, that's not true, I probably could if I tried. I just don't feel like sleeping. I'm still playing/testing my new computer to see if I want to "change" it or not. Alright, down to the nerdy stuff.

I just got a new "laptop". It's a Chromebook, which as my dad put it "isn't a real laptop". It doesn't really have an operating system as they are generally know. If you can't do it online then you can't do it on a Chromebook. So far I like it, but it's been a bit... awkward. There are some games I can't play because it doesn't have the plug ins that I need to play them and I'm not nerdy enough to know which ones I need. I might download Ubuntu and see how that works, but I haven't really decided yet. I'm going to do more research on it and see.

I can't say I've been watching any new "nerdy" tv shows lately, just the normal ones. I have started watching Hannibal, but I can't decide if I like Mads as the titular character or not. He's just not Anthony Hopkins, who will always be the only real Hannibal. Mads was amazing as the non-speaking role in King Arthur (I absolutely loved him in that) and he wasn't bad as the bad guy in Casino Royale, but he just doesn't scream serial killer cannibal to me. Oh well...

I have gotten a lot of new video games... well a lot to me. Five. I have, however, only played two. I really enjoyed Dante's Inferno. It's not for the faint hearted. It's kind of like God of War (if you've ever played that) except that you have to fight your way to the depths of Hell to rescue your wife. Yeah, it doesn't really follow the book except for the vague circles of Hell.
I've been spending most of my time playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or just Skyrim as most people call it. It's an RPG and you can literally play it forever (or so I've been told). You have quests that you can go on or you can just wander around and steal horses if you want. Don't ever get off a stolen horse though, it will wander away and you'll have to steal it again. I'm on the fence with horses in general. Depending on which town you get them in, they will help you fight bandits or will run away. That's a con either way. I generally end up killing my horses that help fight by accidentally hitting them with my warhammer (I love my soul stealing warhammer) and if they run away I have to chase them down. Still, they do help when you're carrying too much (stolen) stuff. I currently own two houses (with the third hopefully on the way), but I haven't yet chosen a side in the civil war that's brewing. I prefer to hang out with the Thieves Guild. More gold that way.

I'm still sort of playing The Sims, but not as much since I got the Xbox, but since my friend Andrew fixed my computer up all nice, I'll probably start playing again since I do love designing houses and people. Yes, that is what I spend most of my time on.

I finished the book On Stranger Tides. It was okay. Not my favorite of his, but still good. I'm currently working my way through The Dresden Files. I just finished Book 8 and now I'm working on Book 9. I own all the books that have been published so far, I just need to read them now.

Oh, this isn't nerdy, but maybe it is nerdy, who knows? I'm going to tell you anyway.
A couple months ago, I got to cross something off my bucket list by going to see Terrence Mann sing. It was beautiful. He even sang one of my favorite songs of his and my very favorite song from Les Mis Stars. It was so amazing to hear it sung live by the guy who originated it on Broadway. IT WAS AWESOME!

I should probably sleep at some point since I have work tomorrow... today... Have a good day... night... whatever time it is for you.

Hobbit feet, Jobs, and Sex and the City?

So because I'm supposed to be writing a resume to apply for a job, I decided to write a new blog post because that seems like the logical thing to do.

I know I'm like two weeks (or so, I'm too lazy to check) late on a blog post and, honestly, it's just because I'm lazy. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Hmm, things that have happened with me... I finally got my Sim married off, pregnant and now has a child. I swear those like five hours it took to go from pregnancy to like 8 year old were the longest of my life. Seriously.

I've been watching Sex and the City lately (reruns on the Style channel, literally nothing else on to watch midday) and it's got me thinking about my own life. Mostly that I hate boys. Boys are dumb. Honestly, that has nothing to do with the men on the show. Just boys in my own life. Not fun times. You say one thing wrong and they never talk to/want to hang out with you again. I only like half-men. Like my dog. He's not a full man. He's much cuter and he lets me dress him up as Batman for Halloween. Pictures of that if I remember.

I'm almost finished with the blanket I started crocheting like a week ago. I'd be done by now, but, apparently, I'm getting carpal tunnel in my wrists because of it and I have Bursitis in my left shoulder, so that's fun too. I also think I have cubital tunnel, but that hasn't been seen to by a doctor so it's just my opinion. It's actually really fun for the doctor to check for carpal tunnel. I enjoyed it. ... Yeah, I just realized that was probably really weird.

I got my hobbit feet slippers today. I'm pretty excited. Mostly because I needed new slippers and my feet were getting really cold the last few days. They aren't cold now. It's fantastic. I also got a solar powered cell phone charger, but I haven't had a chance to use it because it hasn't fully charged yet. Have you been outside? It was sunny for like an hour today.

I've started using this like app within an app thing on my phone. It's called Go Launcher EX. Fantastic thing in general, but it sucks up power like a Hoover. Should we start saying like a Dyson now? Are Dyson's better than Hoovers? Does Hoover still make vacuums? Why does vacuum have two u's? Anyway... I like it because it stop my background/wallpaper from scrolling with the phone, which is freaking awesome for the background I have right now.

I've been looking for a job for... a while now. A second job. No luck so far. It makes me sad. :( <- sad me

Anywho, I'll try to update more recentlyer than I have been. Probably with pictures if I remember. Have a wonderful, lovely night.

Long time no see. Lawless anyone?

Yeah, yeah I know. I haven't updated in over a month. At first I was really just too busy to update. Then I was just lazy. Really lazy since I sat at my computer and didn't update. But I'm updating now, so that's awesome.

I was really busy because my sister had a baby (Yay babies! and yet, ew babies) and there was things I had to do to help. I wasn't really home for two weeks. Then I'm sure I did something important in August, I just can't really remember what so it must not have been that important or exciting.

Although, I did decide that I'm going to buy a house within 5 years and hopefully a new (to me) by next summer. However, all this plan is only going to work if I get another job, which (sadly) I have yet to get.

I am getting a new computer game which I'm so very excited about as I've wanted it since it came out and that was in 2009. I'm only just getting it because it was on sale and when it was new it cost like $50 and that is too much for a video game on my salary at the moment. But yay Sims 3!

I also bought three games for $5 (altogether) at Walmart the other day, but they weren't very fun and I finished each in a day so... yeah...

I've seen a lot of movies since my last post about TDKR. However, I can't recall which ones as once I've seen a movie and it was over a week ago, it goes into my "Seen" folder in my brain. I did see Lawless last night and again this afternoon (last night by myself and this afternoon with my roomie). I really liked it. However, it is rated R for a reason (blood, language) so I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who doesn't mind watching that. Tom Hardy though was frakkin' hilarious. Most of his dialogue consists of grunts. It was fantastic. I love that his co-star Guy Pearce called him Marlon Brando-esque.
If you love early 1900s Appalachian-type music, you'll love the soundtrack. It's pretty good. Some of the songs are better, I think, than others, but overall I thought it was good.

I should go be productive now, so... yeah... bye...

Bane and Aladdin

It's a couple of days overdue for a new blog post and it's incredibly hot in my house and I should shower, so I'm going to write post because... that makes sense... yes...

Since my last post, I've seen The Dark Knight Rises twice, the new Aladdin musical once, made a new necklace, got a shirt and one for free, and painted my nails more than I should have.

I enjoyed the Aladdin musical. It was funny. WAY TOO LONG, but funny. I admit I was disappointed that there was no Abu, no Iago (parrot-wise) and no elephants, but I kind of figured there wouldn't be. I believe they should have stuck with the original songs from the movie and not added any. Most, I felt, were unnecessary. The Genie (as always) was the best character and really stole the show. Abu was changed into three friend of Aladdin and Iago was changed into a human. The man who played Iago did an excellent job, but I felt like he wasn't the same Iago was in the movies, more of a sniveling little yes-man than a snark side-kick.

I have a... very small obsession with painting my nails. They have to be painted or it bothers me. I think I painted them three times last week. The second time because the first time got messed up because it wasn't dry and the third time because I painted them too fast the second time and there were tiny air bubbles in them... I have issues.

Yes, I have seen TDKR twice. Almost three times, but my family are nerdfaces and didn't want to go. I really loved Bane [no, not just because he was played by Tom Hardy (who I adore!)]. I loved that he was like this big macho gun-for-hire and yet had this amazing voice and eloquence. If you've seen it, you understand. Also, and I know other disagree with me, I think he's just as good a villain as the Joker. I adore the Joker because he did what he did because he could, for the fun of it. Bane nearly killed Batman multiple times and, SPOILER did what he did because of the woman he loved, END SPOILER I think that's awesome.

As for the shirts, after I saw TDKR the first time, I REALLY wanted to buy a Bane shirt, but as he is the villain, there wasn't any in any stores that I saw that I liked. Most were not attractive. I was not happy. So I went on Amazon (the worst/best place ever) and found one that I liked. It was more than I wanted to pay, but it was the cheapest and had the design I wanted. I ordered it and found out it was going to take them 6-10 days to even get it ready to ship to me. I admit, I was a bit upset. Even more upset when I got it and found out it was a design I didn't want. However, the good news is (after I complained because, dude, I paid good money for this shirt), they're sending me the correct one (no charge) and I get to keep the other one too! Two Bane shirts for the price of one! AWESOME!!! BEST SELLERS EVER!

I'd post a picture of the necklace I made, but I don't really feel like it, but know it's a button with a nail on it (to hold the string/rope) with a picture of Bane in it. I wanted it to be kind of industrial looking. Overall I'm very happy with it and if I ever get off my butt, I'll post a picture of it, but I'm lazy... so I probably won't.

Adventures in Pirate Land

Yes, it's that time again. Time for another set of weirdness from me. In this weeks edition: Pirates of the Caribbean! Yeah that's pretty much all I've been doing...

Lately, a couple days anyway, I have become, depressingly, maddeningly obsessed with playing the Pirates of the Caribbean online game. I find it incredibly addictive. You can play it for free until you get to a certain point and then it laughs in your face and taunts you that you can't finish the missions you were working on for days. So yes, sadly I did pay $5 to be able to play for a month and have unlimited access.

In the game, you design your pirate and get missions to accomplish, you usually get three or so mission at a time, so if you want to put off plundering some Navy ships, you can go fight the undead to collect dust from them. There are lots of different islands you can go to. So far, the only big ones I've been to are Tortuga, Port Royal and Cuba. In fact, the other day, I swam around the entire island of Cuba because I couldn't remember how to get to Tia Dalma's shack. It took me about 30 minutes and was possibly the most boring 30 minutes of my life. Although I did end up finding a volcano island because of it.

When playing, you can join a crew or a guild (I have yet to do either. Lone wolf! Arrooo!!) and you can talk to other players in the game (by way of typing, not talking) Also, if you're near other people having a conversation, you can overhear their conversation. My favorite I've ever heard was last night.

Pirate 1:Yo black man, what are you doing?
Pirate 2: Being black

It was so random. Usually it's "how do I get out of here?" or "Want to join my crew/guild?"

Oddly enough, my favorite activity in the game is fishing. I am frakkin' amazing at it. I love it because it's easy, not too time consuming and you can get lots of gold off it. I bought myself a 3000g French Assassin's coat only from catching fish. It's awesome. Another of my favorite things is when you run by someone and they are kind of slumped over. When you've been away from your computer/the game for a while your character slumps over and says AFK (Away from Keyboard) over your head. Depending on the time of day, there are a lot of "sleeping" people. It amuses me.

My least favorite is fixing my ship. I hate fixing my ship. Probably why I hate when a mission says I have to go out and plunder ships. I much prefer to keep my feet on dry ground. I guess that makes me kind of a crappy pirate. But I am an amazingly well-dressed one.

Hello!

Hello again everyone. How are we all doing? Wonderful? Good.

You know, I've been thinking about writing this post for a few days now and now I can't remember what I was going to write about. Strange.

I did watch an odd movie the other day. I missed the ending because I fell asleep, but I assume everything ended happily ever after. It was called Fire & Ice . It had Gimli (LOTR), Fred(Angel) and Imhotep(The Mummy) in it, which I think is why I started watching it in the first place. At first it seemed like any other cookie cutter we have to kill dragons fantasy movie until the dragons came out. They looked like giant flying sting rays. Yes. Sting Rays. It was so weird.

I've been watching Game of Thrones and, I'm going to get hate for this, I honestly don't see what's so good about it. There isn't really any characters I like except Tyrion and he keeps getting screwed out of everything, so that's no fun. I like Arya too, but she's not done anything really big lately either. I liked Stannis's brother, who's name I can't recall, but he got killed by a shadow so... yeah. Not a big fan. I liked the first season, but the second season is just full of stupid people doing stupid things that are easy to guess. I'm not surprised by it anymore.

So, I role play over Twitter. Yes, role play. Sherlock role play I'm a weirdy. Deal. Except I guess it gets worse as I currently role play as four different men. I used to have three men and a woman, but everyone hated her so she ran away. One of them doesn't have a job because he married a billionaire and they're having twins. One of them is a bodyguard to a man who is basically Moriarty, but not and is having a baby with his girlfriend. Another is the man's right hand man who just decided to settle down and the final is a high class escort. Funny thing about them is that they are all late 30s, early 40s. Except the jobless one. He's turning 52 this year.

I was supposed to play D&D today, but alas, I was too ill and feeling like I was going to have all my insides come out my face. It wasn't fun times. Hopefully, I can play next week and I'll have AWESOME dice to play with. I'm so excited.

I really like Dr. Pepper and salty chips. In fact, if given the choice between a bag of chips (that I found tasty) and a box of chocolates, I would take the bag of chips every time.

This is my dog Koschei. This picture is a few years old though. I'll probably post more when I get the uploaded to my computer. Which maybe a while because I'm lazy. My middle sister likes to call him Skippyjon Jones. It's never really made sense to me as the books are about a cat that think he's a Chihuahua whereas my dog is a dog that is part Chihuahua.

Did I mention I'm getting dice? I'm getting awesome clear-green dice.

That is the end of my ramblings for today. TTFN.
